This painting reflects the beauty and magic of the Appalachian Mountains, especially the Blue Ridge. The featured wolf is a Red Wolf, a rare species only found in the southern forests of the U.S., which faces extinction.
This painting was completed using the mischtechnik method, which I learned in a workshop with the outstanding Amanda Sage.
As I worked on this painting, I felt overwhelmed by the feeling of change in 2020. So many elements of our society and personal lives shifted that year. For me, this painting recalls the serenity of the mountains, while also acknowledging the dangers our wild places face.
As we humans were consumed with the social upheaval and economic stress that characterized 2020, our ecosystems faced an even greater threat.
We must remember that even as we meet the challenges in our personal lives, we are also responsible for our impact on the planet.
